Many of the heavy hitters in the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics have named their leadership groups for the upcoming tournament. Team Sweden has named its leadership group on Sunday for the event.

MILAN (AP) — At 19, Hilda Svensson wasn’t born the last time Sweden’s women’s hockey team medaled at the Olympics. The Ohio State freshman and a collection of young and brashly confident teammates are eager to rectify what’s been a 20-year drought at the Milan Cortina Games.

The United States hasn’t won a gold medal in men’s hockey at the Olympics since the “Miracle on Ice” in 1980 at Lake Placid. Canada’s drought isn’t nearly as long, just the past two Winter Games in 2022 and 2018,

Landeskog has played 41 games for Colorado this season and has 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists). The Avalanche (37-9-9) are first in the NHL and were on a record pace before their captain was forced to leave the lineup. They went 6-6-2 in the 14 games without Landeskog.

Sweden looks to lock up first place in Group B when they face France on Sunday, as women’s ice hockey action continues at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

Today, Team Sweden, which plays its first game of the tournament against Team Italy on Wednesday (3:10 p.m. ET; Peacock, USA, CBC Gem, SN, CBC).

Frida Karlsson dominated the Olympic women's cross country skiing skiathlon on Saturday for arguably her biggest career success in a Swedish one-two finish. Karlsson skied away from team-mate Ebba Andersson with less than seven kilometres left and had plenty of time on the home straight to grab a Swedish flag.

Norway’s Sander Eitrem took home gold in the men’s 5,000-meter speedskating competition, setting an Olympic record at 6:03.95. Czechia won gold in women’s parallel giant slalom, while Austria took gold in the men’s event.

Sweden looks to secure a spot in the Women’s Hockey Quarterfinals at the 2026 Winter Olympics with a win on Saturday, as they get set to face the host nation, Italy.
